QUICK + EASY ENTERTAINING TIPS

sicilian tuna with capers + red onion

This recipe was inspired by a salad I had on a trip to Sicily. It’s full of simple flavors and best with fresh tuna if you can easily get your hands on some. If not, you can use canned tuna instead. It’s great as is, served as a sandwich or even better tossed together with some cherry tomatoes and fresh arugula.

1 cup fresh poached tuna, roughly chopped*
1 1/4 teaspoons finely minced red onion
1 teaspoon capers, drained (plus a splash of liquid)
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon red wine vinegar

In a medium bowl, add tuna, red onion and capers (and a splash of the liquid) and season with salt and pepper. Add olive oil and red wine vinegar and toss to combine. Adjust flavor as necessary. Serve at room temperature.

*To poach fresh tuna, place tuna steak and enough water to cover fish in a medium saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer (do not boil). Cook over low heat until fish is opaque, about 10-12 minutes. Remove from water, transfer to a bowl and allow to cool. Flake with a fork before serving.

Serves 1.
