QUICK + EASY ENTERTAINING TIPS

crystallized ginger martini

This is a nice kicked-up version of a traditional martini with hints of both ginger and lemon, giving it a nice, unexpected flavor.

This recipe is part of the asian-inspired menu.

Ginger Simple Syrup
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup cold water
1/3 cup fresh ginger, peeled and roughly chopped

1 1/2 ounces vodka
1 tablespoon ginger simple syrup
2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 lemon
1/4 cup finely minced crystallized ginger, for garnish
2-3 tablespoons sugar

1. Chill martini glass.
2. Make ginger simple syrup. In a small saucepan, add sugar, water and ginger and bring to a boil. Stir until sugar dissolves. Cover and allow to steep for 10-15 minutes. Cool then strain. Refrigerate until ready to use.
3. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add vodka, ginger simple syrup and lemon juice. Cover and shake vigorously, or stir, until combined.
4. On a cutting board, combine crystallized ginger and sugar. Using back of a knife, mix together until a paste forms. Spread mixture into a thin layer and holding glass from its stem, dip rim into crystallized ginger, coating entire rim of glass (you’ll need to do this a few times to get it to stick). Carefully wipe off any large pieces of ginger so that rim has only a soft, powdery edge to it. Carefully strain vodka mixture into a glass and serve.

Serves 1.
