QUICK + EASY ENTERTAINING TIPS

chinese garlic sauce

This sauce is perfect in your favorite stir-fry, or in stir-fried beef + broccoli.

1 1/2 tablespoons seasoned rice vinegar
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
2 teaspoons dry sherry
1/2 teaspoon Thai-style chili sauce, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon peanut oil
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/2 Thai chili pepper, finely minced, or to taste

1. In a small bowl, combine rice vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, sherry, chili sauce and sesame oil. Set aside.
2. In another bowl, dissolve cornstarch in water and set aside.
3. In a medium saucepan, heat peanut oil over medium heat. Add garlic and chili pepper and cook for about 1 minute. Quickly re-stir vinegar sauce and add to saucepan, stirring to combine. Bring to a boil. Add cornstarch mixture to sauce and stir to combine. Cook until sauce thickens, about 30 seconds.

Makes approximately 1/2 cup.
