caramelized onion dip

If you’re like me and grew up loving onion dip and potato chips, you will love this kicked-up version of the classic recipe. Once you’ve try this version, you’ll never use the mix again. By caramelizing the onions, they become softened and really sweet, and add a nice undertone to this dip.

2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper
8 ounces sour cream
4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1-2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1. In a medium sauté pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions cook until caramelized, stirringly occasionally, about 15-20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
2. In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, cream cheese and Worcestershire sauce until well blended. And onions and stir to incorporate. Season with salt and pepper. Chill until ready to serve.

Makes approximately 1 1/2 cups.
